Each photograph has an aspect ratio (primarily 4:3) that will be cropped when you order a print from Shutterfly. To receive the best looking print, which is cropped properly to keep the important areas of the photo, you should follow the instructions below.

- To properly position the photo within each print, it is important to use the Print Preview button located on the frame for each photo in the Shutterfly. This will ensure that the cropping of the photo yields the best looking print for you to matt and frame.
- There are two methods to properly crop the photo:
- The first method yields a borderless print. After you press the Print Preview, use the Easy Crop tool. With this tool you will see the original (greyed out edges represent part of the photo you can't see) with the print frame centered (and showing the printable part of the photo). You can slide the frame left to right until you like the composition. When you push the "Preview Print" button you will see how the final print will look in the selected size. If you are happy, you close the Preview window, which saves your settings. Shutterfly will process the print with your selected cropping. This style of printing allows you to use standard off-the-shelf matts and frames or custom framing.
- The second method yields the entire image with some "white" space around it, which will depend on the proportions of the paper, but you will have the entire original image. When you use this style, it will be important that your matt size is custom cut and that the framing appropriately borders the print. This second method works very will with custom framing and matting.
- With either method, it is important that you use the "Print Preview" to be sure you see the results you want in the final print.
- Finally, when you request prints larger than 8x10: DO NOT HANDLE OR REVIEW THE PRINT MORE THAN ONCE before you have it framed. The print can become creased or damaged with handling so minimize rolling/unrolling the larger prints. I recommend that you use a quality framing gallery for best results.
